Special Abilities & Readiness for Play Update - Naiteborne V0.4 Update


The second big content update to Naiteborne! This update reworks a lot of Special Abilities and stabilizes a lot of systems to work better together. With this update I am happy to announce that it is in a great state to play with! The groups had a lot of fun playing with this system.

Major Updates

  • Updated a lot of Special Abilities across all Classes and Archetypes to be more fun, evocative and interesting to use.
  • When you roll two or more 6s or two or more 1s, you can pick multiple options, such as Gaining a Heroic Point, Softening a Consequene or Progressing a Clock!
  • Updated the Combat Text. The system works the same, its just better explained and less confusing!
  • Enemy Encounters now also have access to their own Heroic Points to cause chaos.
  • Added a Group Action and Montage Rolls. This allows the group to do an action that everyone wants to help with, or to speed up the flow of the story but leave the result to the dice rolls.
  • Level Tiers system got removed across the board.
  • Added Group Drives. This includes a new XP trigger, and helps the group roleplay together in a certain way.
  • Added Traps Secion to help players and GMs understand how trap works in a game without perception rolls.
  • Updated Magic Rules.
    • Spells are now tied to Item Slots.
    • Rituals are for big story affecting changes.
    • Added Force Magic to the Performance Path.
  • Added better Item Creation rules for GMs to help prepare magic items for the group.
  • Improved Enemy Creation Section to help make it more low-prep and quickly to make enemies.

Minor Updates

  • Updated Overview and added Legal Page at the end.
  • Fixed some spelling mistakes.
  • Improved Intuition Description.
  • Game Master Advice is now called The GM Toolkit.
  • Updated Clocks Section to be more easily understandable.
  • Reworded and re-ordered Long Rest Rules.
  • Removed Scenes heading.
  • Updated Initial Session Zero text.
  • Added a paragraph on what to do when recreating a PC when they go for a Heroic Demise.
  • Added more information on Healing Potions and how to get them.
  • Added some more info to Villains.
  • Fixed Italic in the PDF (it now works!)

What's next?

The current state of Naiteborne is great, the rules flow well together to create a Heroic Tale. After this update the main focus will become:

  • Playtesting a bunch of Classes and Archetypes. 
  • Creating Items and Spell examples.
  • Improving PDF Layout
  • Getting Art made for the system.

This version of Naiteborne will continue to be free, however future versions depending on the changes will start to have a cost.
